Let’s face it. Whether you are a working professional or a stay at home mom, or some combination of the two, we can all use some extra motivation at times. For me, I tend to start the week off strong and then start fading by mid-week so that is when I really need the extra boost.
I decided to sit down and list out some things that keep me motivated on those days when I am dragging or maybe just having a rough one and questioning everything I do.
First, it is so important to remember why you started. If you stay home with your kids, that is amazing. Remembering all the reasons you decided to do that can help get you through those not so fun moments. If you work, are you doing something you are passionate about? If not, maybe it’s time to start thinking about a new goal. If you are a combination of both, remember why you chose that path. Sometimes just taking a step back and gaining some perspective is all it takes.
Second, one of the things I love is watching other successful people and learning from them. I definitely don’t have it all figured out and I know none of us do but sometimes gaining insight and seeing how others measure success can be so motivating. I watched a webinar for the LiketoKnow.it conference last week and something about hearing some of those women speak just gave me that extra motivation to try even harder.
Goal setting can be a game changer when it comes to motivation. This can be perceived in two ways. First, there are the bigger goals we can set for ourselves and our personal or professional success but there are also the day to day goals that sometimes can give us that sense of accomplishment we so need. I am a big fan of to do lists because they not only keep me organized but also make me feel productive and accomplished at the end of a long day.
Finally, remember to take breaks. If you’re a stay at home mom, try to find those precious moments along somewhere in the day where you can just take a deep breath and regroup. When working, especially from home these days, take that time to get up from the desk and go for a walk or get a quick workout in. Taking a step back when burn out starts to set in always recharges me and allows me to refocus my energy and get back on track.
What are some of the ways you stay motivated? Think about that today and jot down a few. I went through this exercise so I can go back and remind myself anytime I need to. Halfway through the week and that is motivation right there!
