So, I will admit, I love receiving a great gift as much as anyone, but when it comes to Mother’s Day, what we really want is the thought behind the gift. To be honest, it doesn’t even have to cost a penny. I have seen some really great gift guides out there and I have a list of things I would love to get too, but I thought it would be fun to put together a list of the things most of us really want this Mother’s Day.
I. Time
As a mom of two teens, any time I get with them is so precious these days and is truly the greatest gift in my eyes. I also know many of the college kids, including my niece, are making their way home for summer break and all those moms want is to squeeze them and soak up as much time as they can. If you are a teen or even an adult struggling with what to get your older parent, here are a few ideas.
- A walk/hike or even a drive together
- A coffee date to just talk and catch up
- Watch a movie or show together
- Attend church with Mom (My daughter will be joining me)
- Shopping date
II. A Helping Hand
As moms, we have our designated jobs and weekend errands to take care of, but it is always nice to have a welcome break from those activities, like the grocery shopping, dishes, laundry, cooking, or even running an errand. I can tell you this is always a welcome gift in my house.
III. Make Something
It’s so easy to get caught up in the pressure of having to spend a lot of money on mom. Most of us would prefer a homemade card or letter but you can also bake her favorite dessert or pick some flowers and put them in a vase.
IV. A Good Book
While many moms don’t have a lot of time to read, with summer approaching, I know it’s usually on the wish list. Some ideas include any Colleen Hoover book, the new Joanna Gaines book, “The Stories We Tell” or a new devotional.
V. Family Photos
Us moms always love our photos to look back on. Getting everyone dressed and over to the park for a fun, impromptu photo session is a great way to brighten mom’s day and hopefully tire out the little ones.
VI. Alone Time
If you are a mom of little ones, alone time is so precious, so why not give her a little extra time on Mother’s Day. Even a 30 minute bath or quick nap would really refresh her spirits for a new week ahead. Or, even better, give her an hour or two to roam the aisles at Target aimlessly without chasing kids. Best therapy ever!
VII. Surprise Coffee
When she wakes up on Mother’s Day, treat her to her favorite coffee to get her day started right.
VIII. Something she won’t buy herself
While I like to shop, I’m not one to just indulge in purchases on a whim. That’s why I love when someone remembers something I have had my eye on and grabs it. The Lululemon belt bag is a great example of that or maybe even an Apple watch for the active mom.
Finding the right gift is hard and I am always one to put pressure on myself to pull it off, but the truth is, if the love and sentiment are behind it, any mom is sure to love it. Hope all the mamas out there have an amazing Mother’s Day weekend!
