I don’t know about you but this time of year can always be a bit more challenging to stay motivated and inspired. With the official start to Spring still about a month away and the holidays now well behind us, I always find myself in the mid-winter lull where everyday seems routine and there isn’t much to get excited about. Going in to the 3 day weekend, I could feel myself on burnout and needing to recharge. While I wanted to relax and get outside this weekend, I knew I had also neglected some things around the house so I sat down and made a rough plan of how I wanted to spend the weekend to get out of this funk. Here are some ideas if you have been finding yourself feeling the same way.
Dedicate some time to getting some things off the to do list and getting your house in order. For me, once the errands are done, I always feel like I can relax and enjoy the weekend without that nagging list hanging over me. For me, I took Saturday to run all of the errands and get a few things done around the house and it felt so nice at the end of the day. It allowed me to focus on the next two days and really maximizing the rest of my extended weekend.
Get out of the house and explore local restaurants and shops. On Sunday morning, we headed for brunch to a cute little place locally that my son loves. The atmosphere was energetic and fun and the food was amazing. While it is so easy to stay in your pajamas all morning, there is something about getting out for breakfast to jumpstart your day. My daughter and I followed up brunch with some shopping at a local boutique we like. Finding some unique pieces that are different than everything else I have been seeing was so refreshing and well worth the money. We also snagged some donuts from a local spot that is famous for their decadent and “more like dessert” assortment of donuts.
Spend time with family. Sunday night is usually dinner with the family but some weeks more of us can attend than others. This week, we got to see my baby nephews for the first time in about 6 weeks and it always re-energizes me to spend time with them and all of my family. There truly is nothing better for my soul than spending time with my family.
Get outside and get some fresh air. Monday was a day of self-care but also being intentional to get outside and take a hike with my sister and niece. We went to a great local spot with beautiful red rocks and it was the perfect way to spend a few hours, getting in some much needed exercise, enjoying nature and, as always, some girl time.
While none of these were groundbreaking ideas, I wanted to share because no matter how you choose to break out of your rut or get yourself motivated again, it is all about recognizing the burnout and being mindful to know you need to take care of yourself, not just physically but mentally above all else. Hope everyone is feeling renewed to start the short week ahead.
