Spring Fever

With more rain than we have seen in years this winter, Spring fever is definitely kicking in. Don’t get me wrong! I’m grateful to finally put those sweaters and boots to good use for a season but I think we have had enough.  With March finally upon us, it feels like Spring should be showing signs of arrival but I think it didn’t get the memo this year.  With Daylight Savings ending this weekend, we should be able to enjoy the evenings with the sun staying out later but no signs yet.

That being said, there are still several ways we can make Spring fever come alive in our own ways.  While Easter is still over a month away (yet another thing making a late arrival this year), it helps to get the Spring and Easter decorations out and start brightening up our indoor spaces even if the outside is gloomy and dreary.  Since getting my new tiered tray for my dining table, I am having so much fun collecting holiday items with each new season.  It is a great, inexpensive way to brighten up the space and make it feel springy and festive.  And, it’s so easy to keep it low cost.  I have picked up items from the Target dollar spot, Michaels, and even the grocery store.  A couple other easy ways to brighten up the decor is adding in some kitchen towels (another Target dollar spot find) and grabbing some faux Easter eggs and filling a clear vase.  Fresh flowers are also a great way to scream that you are ready for Winter to kindly make an exit.

The second way to get in the Spring fever mode is starting to stock up on some Spring transition wardrobe pieces.  When the weather does change, it will likely be a mixed bag of some warm days with cool nights or those days when the sun is warm but the shade is cool.  During these times, it’s important to have those key pieces that you can layer when it is cool but easily take off during those warm moments.  I have snagged some great transition items from Aerie and Old Navy this year so far including lightweight cozy sweatshirts, kimonos and great jeans that work for now and later.  Picking up a few fun items that feel like Spring is the best way to get excited for the new season.

Finally, one of my favorite things to do is get outdoors and enjoy either a long walk or hike when we do see those beautiful days.  While I try to walk regularly with my walking partner, we have definitely had our share of freezing nights and even a little rain on a few of our trips.  I am really looking forward to those perfect nights or early mornings when the weather isn’t too hot or cold.  There is also no better time to take a good hike than when the sun is shining but the weather is still cool enough to enjoy without melting.  There is nothing like fresh air, good company and my favorite form of exercise (walking) to get the day started right.

Whatever gets you in the mood for Spring, embrace it and hold on to the hope that hopefully the warmer temps will soon follow.
