Mixed Blessings

Life is full of ups and downs but I think we have never seen that more than in the last 4 months since this pandemic started. While trying to count our blessings of our health and safety which we are beyond grateful for, the stream of bad news and disappointments can be exhausting at times.

When this first started, I remember being week to week with decisions made on a short-term basis. While it was still a rollercoaster, the hope that change would be in the near future was promising and encouraging. At the same time, we watched our nephew and cousin miss out on their senior year activities, one by one. I never questioned how this would potentially impact my son’s senior year as I had hoped that with the original stay at home order, we would see our way out of this or at least in the right direction.

With school starting in just 3 weeks, we received the news this week that sadly, he would be starting his final year of high school online. No matter where you stand on this issue, I know all of you moms can relate to the profound disappointment that comes with our kids continuing to miss out on milestones in this time of their lives. My daughter will also start her freshman year online which I anticipate will also bring some challenges.

In spite of this news, I remain so hopeful that we can get these kids back to school at least for the second half so they can have their Senior proms, grad nights and graduations. As a mom, I pray that God will guide these kids and all of us into how to get them back to some sense of normal life.

On the flip side, we received confirmation that our sweet pup had a benign tumor removed which means his constant source of love and joy for all of us these days will remain for hopefully many years to come.

When life feels overwhelming at times these days, I try to take a step back and remember the small blessings. If we all work together, I hope that we can get our kids back to school. For now, we will continue to take one day at a time and remain faithful each step of the way. Stay strong my friends!
