Finding Balance on Your Terms

Happy Monday! It was a fairly low key weekend but a super productive one which was much needed. We all have that nagging to do list that hangs over our heads daily, but when the weekend comes, we tend to think we need to tackle all the big projects and tasks. The challenge is if your mind and body aren’t in the right mindset, it’s tough to find that motivation, especially when the weekends are supposed to be our time to relax, unwind and enjoy some fun.

September was a busy month for us so many of my house projects, other than the daily to dos, got put on the back burner. When October started, I had so many intentions to immediately decorate for Fall and get a few spaces in my house organized, but honestly, wasn’t feeling it the first weekend. I could have forced it but I know if I wait until I’m motivated, I tend to be much more productive.

This last weekend was a slower pace for us so it was the perfect time to run the errands, clean out those drawers and cupboards that have been driving me crazy and get the rest of my Fall decor out. It felt so nice to get so much accomplished and knowing that our next weekend is a busy one, it helps me find some balance in knowing some weekends are filled with the fun events and others are a balance of getting life back on track.

In the end, the lesson is that you need to listen to your body and your mind. If you feel like relaxing and binge watching Netflix all weekend, or jumping in the car for a quick weekend getaway, or tackling that home project that keeps getting put on the back burner, do what feels right. Life is too short to force yourself to do anything you don’t want to do. That weekend project will always be there but knowing when the right time to tackle it is will help get you set up for a successful weekend and the right start to a new week.
