Dallas Getaway Recap

For those of you following along on my Instagram page, we spent the last weekend traveling to Dallas on a college tour for my daughter. With just 3 full days and lots of places to cover on our list, we were all over the city but, in the end, we checked all the boxes of everything we wanted to do while there. While our trip was not a typical vacation, I thought I would recap it for anyone traveling to the area for any reason.

When we booked the trip, the primary purpose was to see one of my daughter’s colleges at the top of her wishlist, TCU (Texas Christian University). We started our planning based on the tour for this campus and added to the itinerary from there. Since we flew in on a Thursday night and out on Monday morning, we needed to maximize the full 3 days we had. After kicking off our tours at TCU on Friday morning, we spent the afternoon checking out SMU (Southern Methodist University). Both campuses were so incredibly beautiful and would make excellent choices for any college student.

After a long first day of walking and driving, we decided to check out Bucee’s on our way back to our hotel. We had seen so many posts about this store and had it recommended by our former nanny who lives in the area. It was definitely an experience and much larger than I imagined. They had it all, from snacks to prepared food, some Bucee’s apparel and gear, along with home decor and clothing. It was truly a one stop shop!

On Saturday, we decided to take a road trip to Waco to check out Baylor University, and of course, Magnolia Farms. While the drive was almost two hours, I honestly didn’t mind it. It was so beautiful and green and an easy drive to navigate. Baylor was another gorgeous campus with so much rich history. The stadium rivaled an NFL team and you know they take their football very seriously.

The Magnolia Silos was an experience that has been on my bucket list for years. I couldn’t be two hours away from it and not get down there to see it. It is very well designed with so much attention to detail. While it only took us a couple of hours to enjoy most of what it had to offer, it was definitely worth the drive. We grabbed some sweet teas and browsed all the shops before grabbing our bakery items for the road. If you are in the Dallas or Austin area, this is definitely a must visit. After a long drive back, we grabbed some Chuy’s to go and headed back to our hotel to enjoy.

Sunday was a day left free of plans and college tours so that we could explore more of the Dallas area. We opted to go for some local shopping at Flea Style and selected the Frisco location since it had the cutest cafe across the street, Eggsquisite Cafe. We also wanted to check out the Hat Bar and see what it was like to customize our own.

Little did we know that when we selected the Frisco location, the Dallas Cowboys stadium was literally in the same center. We walked around and took some photos, checked out the fan shop and enjoyed the area before heading into Flea Style. The boho chic vibe at Flea Style was so cute, from the boutique to the cafe and the hat bar, it was truly such a fun shop to check out. Of course, we had to try on and buy a few things before heading in to make our custom hat. Adding some pieces to a hand picked hat was the perfect way to remember our time in Dallas and an experience that we wouldn’t have here in CA.

We capped off our last night with some Texas BBQ at Rudy’s with our friends. Before departing on Monday, we made sure to grab another Dutch Bros. coffee since they have not ventured into So Cal yet, but we are still hoping. Overall, while I was not sure how this trip was going to go, it was such a great time. It will definitely be a memory my daughter and I treasure forever. Thanks for all of the hospitality Texas! We will definitely be back.
