I did this exercise in March so I thought I would do the same this month. With things starting to slowly reopen and more opportunities to see family and friends, I thought I would take a moment to reflect on all the good things that April brings to celebrate. It’s the perfect way to approach a new month with a positive mindset and outlook towards the future.
April 4th-Easter Sunday
Last year looked so different on Easter. We were all on stay at home orders with no chance to get together. We made the best of it and created some fun family videos to share and keep all of us connected. Normally, we have our annual Easter in the Park and this year, we will go back to it but in a modified version. With most of the kids getting older, a whole day in the park filled with Easter egg hunts isn’t really what they want to do anymore. But the time with their cousins playing basketball, volleyball and lawn games is what they enjoy so we are changing the tradition a bit to an afternoon at the park but the most important part of getting together will remain the same.
April 20th-My Husband’s 50th Birthday
While our original plan was to travel to Cabo with close friends and family, with the unknowns of travel right now, we had to suspend those plans until next year. Instead, we are going to stay local and rent a beach house for the weekend to just “get away” from our house and enjoy some much needed time off. It will be low key but full of small celebrations all weekend to honor the big milestone.
April 22nd-Earth Day
I love that there is a day to remind us how beautiful and precious our Earth is, these days more than ever. While I am not an activist or environmentalist necessarily, I can appreciate the outdoors now more than ever after lockdown. Spring is always the perfect time to celebrate the Earth as we start experiencing warmer days and hints of summer to come.
April 24th-Senior Prom
There is no school organized prom this year but I am so grateful for an amazing group of parents who organized a prom for our Seniors to attend. They have gone to great lengths to ensure all safety measures are followed while still giving our Seniors their first event of 2021. It will be bittersweet but I am so incredibly grateful for the memories and, of course, the photos to cherish.
April 30th-Girl Time
Way back at Christmastime, my mom gifted my sisters-in-law and I a little weekend getaway to enjoy some much needed girl time after a long year. With the surge in Covid and the craziness of everyone’s schedules, it has been hard to schedule but we are hopeful we can make it work at the end of the month.
Whether the events or holidays are big or small, having something to look forward to is so important these days to our mental health. Plus, when that privilege is taken away, it certainly becomes even more valuable than ever. Here’s to another month of hope and continued steps towards normalcy.
