I skipped my August blog post as it was a busy time with school getting ready to start and summer winding down but wanted to get back into the swing of things for September now that we are back into a routine. First of all, I can’t believe we are starting the 9th month of 2021. This year has been another roller coaster but seems to be flying by nonetheless. This month brings some extra special days and some new things to celebrate as well.
Labor Day weekend always marks the unofficial end of Summer but here in California, we could see hot temps through November so it’s just another long weekend and a great chance to spend time with family. While none of our plans are set in stone yet, I’m sure we will make the most of the extra day.
The second weekend of September marks my dad’s annual visit to California. Usually he comes in early October but this year he is heading out a little early to be able to spend time with my nephew before he heads back to college. We were so lucky that he was able to come out last year in spite of the pandemic and I feel just as grateful for every year we get to see him. The weekend is always filled with family time, laughter and old stories to be told.
In the middle of the month, we celebrate the upcoming arrival of my new nephew, the last grandchild for my mom. We were so elated to hear that my sister-in-law was having another baby so I have no doubt there will be plenty of love to go around. We plan to celebrate and go back to The Farmhouse at Rogers Gardens. We had a girls lunch there over the summer and instantly fell in love with it. Plus, you can never go wrong with a little extra girl time.
The 22nd is a very big day as it marks my son’s 18th birthday. Moms, when your babies are born, this day seems so far off but I can honestly tell you, it arrived faster than I could have ever imagined. He is starting the next phase of his journey of life and I’m so blessed that he has decided to stay home for now until he figures out his long-term plan. He is such an incredibly, hard working kid and I know he is going to do great.
And finally, to close out the month, my husband and I celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. Our 20th fell last year in 2020 and we weren’t able to travel or do much but we did escape for a staycation overnight which is always just what we need. This year, we don’t have travel plans either but I know we will find a way to celebrate and make it special.
With a full month of events and activities this month, it may just be a marathon but as someone who likes to be busy, I’m secretly looking forward to it. Whatever your plans are this month, I pray that it is filled with memories, family time and blessings. Happy September friends!
